What issue do you have?
I've set up as a new user on MacOS & iPhone -syncing via OneDrive - without problem. Attempted to do same via Web App - there's no obvious way to sync via OneDrive. Is it possible ??
You're the first person that I have come across with this question.
I don't have a definitive answer but my instinct would be no.
There is a web version of Joplin but you can't run it at the same time that you are running the app you can run one or the other.
If you have a large number of notebooks and lots of data it can take a while to load the web app the first time. I think it's primarily intended for computers that do not have the software installed.
I've had very little bother backing up my Evernote stuff - and syncing it to both Phone & Desktop apps with Joplin. Looking back to my Evernote experience, occasionally I find that I'm at work with no access to any of my own devices, but easy access to the web. Evernote was useful in that I could just pull the app up on whatever machine I was logged in to.
The Joplin Web App is essentially the Phone App running in a browser. I exported my data to it by means of a JEX file - very quick & easy - but it saves the data locally on my desktop machine - and can only sync via Joplin Cloud afaik. Seems like there should be a fairly easy way to do it. If only I knew what it was !
Trying to setup a new sync on the web app the options are missing except for joplin cloud. It still seems to be using my dropbox sync before the options went missing.
Although I have never heard of the web app being able to sync with anything other than Joplin Cloud, the web-site for the web app does appear to suggest that it should...
Yes, as it has had the options for a long time, they just went missing last week. I've been using the dropbox sync for 6 months. It still works even though the option is missing now. It's supposed to show all the option like the desktop app.
it strikes me that if the option to set up the sync target have already been set, it will still sync there. But no way to set it up new.
I’m thinking that if the WebApp is effectively the phone app in a browser, which saves its data on the local desktop machine. Then there must be a line of script somewhere setting the sync target.
If my phone app already syncs to it (it does) then presumably the same line of script exists on my phone - and presumably if I changed the line on the WebApp to match the one on the phone, it should work.
is there a log of changes anywhere btw. If it’s just disappeared then presumably someone altered it & would likely have documented it.
The web app hosted on app.joplincloud.com no longer lists non-Joplin Cloud sync targets. Instances of the web app hosted on other domains support more sync targets.
We are changing this particular endpoint to support just Joplin Cloud sync. To use the web app with your other sync services, you have the option self host the app. BUMMAH!!!
As far as I know he (or she) is the main developer. So may well respond to a message. Also it mentions that other instances of the web app are hosted elsewhere. So I may find one.
I am a subscriber to joplin cloud service and I can use the web app on a PC that does not have joplin on it. When I choose synchronization and then select joplin cloud I get an opportunity to authenticate to the joplin cloud service with my user ID and password that I have for joplin cloud.
Then I have the option to authorize that client to access my cloud data.
So, I'm guessing that if other cloud provider options were available in the past they are not anymore.
Personally, I came to joplin from evernote and I was paying evernote a hefty annual fee. They wanted to renew me last time at $250 per year! I canceled my service with evernote and signed up for the joplin cloud service. Regardless of paying monthly or annually which I do it's a lot less expensive to have joplin host your data and get all the extra benefits. The only downside is joplin cloud offers a very minimal amount of cloud storage.
I particularly like to be able to publish notes to the internet and you can't do that without having joplin cloud. There is a plug-in that lets you use Github Gist publish notes to the web but I prefer using the joplin service.
Choosing to pay for the cloud services just a matter of choice and perspective. I'm paying a lot less money now only evernote did offer instantaneous access to my data via the web. I miss that.
For information that I need to make available over the web I just publish a note. I keep track of them using a URL shortener. I also tag all the notes that I publish to the web so on my mobile phone I can and I'll see a list of all of the published notes that I can visit via the internet.
As most users I just found out this week that the web app is not synchronizing with other endpoints.
The reason for this is commercial or technical?
Since the web version is now advertised as a paid Joplin Cloud feature I am inclined to think it is the first option.
I understand some endpoints could present technical challenges (CORS, browser compatibility, TLS, etc..) and this could be one of the reasons for the decision.
My real concern is that ability to sync with other hosts will be deprecated from the web version in the near future, and, even If I self-host my own web-app, it will not sync anymore to Nextcloud, self hosted server or WebDAV.
To be fair, the web app for a long time did have a beta notice which said it may be removed or included as part of Joplin Cloud at some point. You can however still self host it now that other sync targets are not available on the hosted version (see Joplin web app cannot sync with joplin server anymore? - #4 by mrjo118 )
And the hosted version is a cloud service we provide so it's not entirely unreasonable to charge for it.
We have no plan however to deprecate any of the sync methods on it, except if one of them becomes particularly difficult to maintain but I don't see that happening. It seems most the difficulty we have is with the UI, while the backend is relatively stable
However for now we'll only provide minimal support for the self-hosted web app (in terms of documentation and deployment in particular) as I see this as relatively niche, compared to the mobile and desktop app
