Importance of remote items?

Operating system

Windows

Joplin version

3.4.12

What issue do you have?

I'm trying to verify sync is complete but when I do sync again it spends like an hour updating remote items and deleting remote items and the sync takes forever to redo even though it was supposedly complete before....... Is that even important, the remote items it's doing? I'm not sure how to speed up sync either.

It is likely deleting note history between syncs. Probably you can’t do anything to speed it up, but I would expect the long syncs to settle down and become quick again after some time. It is important that you let it complete, otherwise some changes that you make will not be uploaded to the cloud / your server.

Some questions:

  1. What sync target are you using?
  2. Do you let the slow sync complete, or do you cancel it / quit the Joplin app before it completes?
  3. If you let it sync to completion, does the sync take over an hour for every subsequent sync? How many times this slow sync happened?
  4. Can you post a screenshot of the sync status screen available in the help menu of Joplin desktop?

Thanks for the reply. I just let the sync run overnight to let it fully do whatever it was doing and it finally said completed this morning. Then I realized the sync only takes 2 minutes now (cause there really isn't anything to change or modify obviously). It must just be the way it is designed that the first sync to a new device takes a while (for me, an hour or hours) but after that the changes are minimal so the sync time shrinks. Shrug.
