I think this was added in 1.0.157 under “Added backticks to auto-wrapping quotes”.

I place a lot of source code in my notes, and Joplin is helpfully adding what it **thinks** is the right number of balanced quotes. Needless to say, this causes a lot of backspacing, etc. as I change two or four backticks back to three…

I think this has just been fixed today and the updated behaviour should be available in the next release (or perhaps the one after).

@CalebJohn Could you add an option to disable generating _all_ closing quotes/braces/etc? This is so irritating.

Ya I’ll look into it, I’m not a fan of auto matching braces myself.

If it’s not possible to make it work, maybe we should remove the feature then. I prefer not to add an option for this.

A lot of editors do that, so I vote to keep it.

I find it very useful and I vote also to keep it.
For others, did you consider, for these kind of documents, type it in another editor and then copy/paste it into Joplin editor ?

I think it makes sense to have a toggle for this one given that there is no right answer. Everybody seems to have a personal preference and it doesn’t make sense for everybody to have to use the same default.

</div>

Ok that makes sense, it’s true that other editors generally have this option too, so if you can add it, we can merge.

What it the status on that? Using:
Joplin 1.0.233 (prod, win32)

Client ID: 1333e5503b574bababa5c80c88fcc160
Sync Version: 1
Profile Version: 32
Keychain Supported: No

Revision: e63eee89 (master)

back tick quote doesn’t balanced even if the option “Auto-pair braces, parenthesis, quotations, etc.” is checked.

My use case: select some text, press back tick quote.
Expected: back tick quote surounds my text
Actual: back tick replace my text

square bracket, parenthesis and quotation mark `"` works

EDIT: it works using CodeMirror
