What issue do you have?

Hello everybody! After searching on the forum without luck, I'd love to have your suggestions on my issue.

After exporting all my notes on an external drive, I reinstalled Windows (to move to Win11) and imported them again to Joplin to avoid long downloads with Dropbox.
Joplin on Win11 has been working fine since last week, but on my Android phone I get a long download of all the notebooks as duplicates!
I thought about manually erasing the duplicate notebooks, but I'm afraid it might erase all the notebooks on Windows…
What do you think I should do? Warmest greetings, Dimitri

Unfortunately you found out the hard way that you cannot use the import function to speed up a slow initial sync, because import does not validate duplicates. The simplest way to resolve this is to permanently delete all notes and duplicates in Joplin, then import your backup once again.

This is the simplest method but by no means is it quick. You will have to wait for the sync to upload all the deleted items and recreated items. Then on all your other clients you must wait for a long re-sync (without importing the data on any other client)

Thank you for your help Mr Jo !

Could you please confirm that I erase all the data on Windows (no duplicates) and not on Android (duplicates)? Or on both and then import in Windows ?

Oh yes, only delete all notebooks on one client. Make sure all clients are fully in sync before doing so. Also this assumes the jex backup you already have has the latest version of all your notes. If you have made further changes on any note, you will lose those changes unless you back them up separately.

The general rule is that if you make a change on any one client, it will propogate to all other clients. If you make the same change on another client before it has synced, you may get conflicts / duplicates / unwanted results.

Thank you ! :folded_hands::grinning_face:

I will take care of it in the next days.
